About Helena House
Helena House is a fully operational children’s safe haven in Plettenberg Bay, created for young victims of abuse and trauma who need immediate protection, stability, and care. Working closely with Bitou Victim Support, the house offers temporary accommodation, counselling, and support to children from across the Bitou area, regardless of background, culture, or community.
The house has separate boys’ and girls’ dormitories, each accommodating up to four children, along with two bathrooms, a play area, a quiet study room for homework, a kitchen, lounge, dining area, and laundry facilities tailored to the needs of the children in residence. A full-time House Mother lives on-site and is on call 24/7 to ensure the children are safe, cared for, and supported in their daily lives.
A small, non-intimidating office space is available for social workers, councellors, police, lawyers and the Departement of Child Welfare to meet with the children and manage ongoing matters in a calm, child-centred environment. More than a building, Helena House is a place of healing, hope, and shared responsibility, where the community stands together to protect its most vulnerable members.
